Join the A-Team!

Each year, thousands of people from all over the world come to Alive and enjoy 3 days of music, camping, and more. However, it all couldn’t happen without the help of our amazing volunteers. If you’re interested in joining the A-Team at Alive this summer, we’d love your help!

What is the A-Team?

The A-Team is what we call our awesome volunteers!

What does the A-Team do?

They work all over the festival to support the festival staff and attendees and ensure that everyone has an incredible, fun, and safe experience at Alive. As a member of the A-Team, you could be doing anything from selling a band’s merch, to keeping an eye on various entry points, to greeting everyone as they come and go throughout the park. It’s all up to you and what your personal interests are!

What do I get if I join the A-Team?

All members of the A-Team receive admission to Alive and you may enjoy the festival whenever you’re not working. You’ll also get the official A-Team t-shirt, and free showers. Most importantly, you’ll get the sense of being a part of something special—the experience of working at a major music festival, and playing a huge part in everyone’s experience! Not to mention, you’ll make memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

How do I join?

Just follow these 7 steps and you’ll be good to go!

STEP 1

Be sure to read through all of the information available including the FAQ, Team Descriptions, and A-Team Pledge.

STEP 2

Fill out the A-Team application!

  • There is a $25 application fee which includes admission to Alive, a t-shirt to show everyone that you are part of the A-Team, and a free Hot Showers Ticket with 4 showers! *This fee is not refundable.
  • Unless you’ve volunteered in the past and done something wrong (or you’re under the age limit of 17 years old), you can pretty much guarantee that your application will be accepted.

STEP 3

Get assigned to your team!

  • All volunteers will be assigned to a specific team. Meaning that if you get assigned to the Guest Services Team, for example, that’s the team you’ll work on for all of your shifts.
  • This will help build consistency for both you and the festival staff so that you’re trained on everything that they do and aren’t required to learn a new system every day.
  • As part of the application, you’ll be able to choose top two teams you are most interested in working on. While we can’t guarantee you’ll get your top choice, we will do our best to get you on a team that fits your interests.
  • You’ll be assigned to your specific team by no later than July 1st.

STEP 4

Get your A-Team schedule!

  • Schedules will be released at least three weeks prior to when you are required to be on-site.
  • This will allow you to know when you’re supposed to be working and give you an idea of what your free time at Alive will look like. What bands will you get to see? Which ones will you have to miss? All of that will be answered ahead of time so that if you have any issues, you can try and work it out.
  • By giving you your schedules ahead of time, we hope that you’ll be able to resolve any conflicts before you get on site to check-in.

STEP 5

Check in at Alive!

  • If you are able and planning to serve early on Thursday before Alive, we have designated hours available for check-in.
  • All A-Team members will check in at the Volunteer Check-In. Information about times and where to Check-In is located will be sent to those A-Team members who have followed through with the whole application process and have been assigned to a team.
  • First time volunteers will need to collect their wristband each day at the Volunteer Check-In and returning volunteers will receive their Full Event Wristband at their first check-in.
  • Once you’ve received your wristband at the Volunteer Check-in you will be directed over to the site to the exclusive volunteer camping areas (or you can join friends or family in the park).

STEP 6

Work your shifts!

  • Shifts last 5-6 hours (depending on the team).
  • Be sure to check in 15-20 minutes early to each of your shifts.
  • Check-in locations for your shift will vary depending on which team you are assigned to.
  • All A-Team members are expected to be on time, and wearing appropriate clothing for their shift:
  • Always wear your A-Team t-shirt when you’re working and be sure to wear something else when you’re not. We don’t want to confuse someone who’s supposed to be working with someone who isn’t.
  • No open-toed shoes or sandals, please.
  • Think about the type of work that you’re going to be doing when deciding what to wear. Showing up in inappropriate clothing or without proper shoes could result in forfeiture of your shift and access to the festival.
  • Be sure to bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and a snack! Please note, we won’t have anywhere to store your stuff or protect your backpack/bag.
  • You’ll meet up with your Alive Volunteer Coordinator when you arrive to each of your shifts.
  • Be sure to stay at your assigned location and task until you are either taken to another work place or have been dismissed by a Coordinator. That’s the only way that you can be sure that it gets noted that you completed your shift.

STEP 7

Enjoy the experience and do it all over again next year!

A-Team FAQ

What perks are included for volunteers?

All members of the A-Team are permitted admission to Alive and may enjoy the festival whenever they’re not working, a t-shirt to show everyone that you are part of the A-Team, and free showers!

Can I work with my friends?

Yes! When you fill out the A-Team Application, list the names of any friends or family you’d like to work with in the comments section at the end. It also helps to fill out the application at the same time and sooner than later. We can’t guarantee every shift together, but we’ll do our best to make it happen!

How long are the shifts?

Shifts last 5-6 hours (depending on the team).

Where do I stay when I volunteer?

All volunteers that work a minimum of 3 days get free tent camping in our volunteer camping area. If you’re a volunteer with an RV or Motor-home you can purchase one of our electric sites, here. Also, you’re welcome to commute each day if you live nearby and park for free in our one day parking area. You are welcome to join your friend or family’s campsite (make sure there’s room on their site).

When will I be assigned a schedule?

Schedules will be released at least three weeks prior to when you are required to be on-site.

If I fill out an application, how likely is it that I’ll be chosen?

Unless you’ve volunteered in the past and done something wrong (or you’re under the age limit of 17 years old), you can pretty much guarantee that your application will be accepted. However, if there is an issue we come across we will address it and still reserve the right to deny your application. We do reserve the right to do a background check.

Do I need a Full Event Ticket to volunteer?

No! The $25 application fee and working your required shifts includes your admission to the festival. We do not refund tickets if you buy them before you find out if you have been confirmed into the A-Team. We cannot refund tickets once purchased so please do not buy with the intention of exchanging it for a volunteer wristband. Wristbands are provided to access the festival for your volunteer shifts.

When do I have to be on site?

It depends on which team you signed up for and when your shift starts. Regardless, though, you’ll need to go to Volunteer Check-In to get your wristband for the Full Event or for the day (if you’re a first-time volunteer).

I already bought a ticket, but I’d like to help out for a few hours. Can I do that?

Unfortunately not. We need all of our volunteers to commit to working for all three days of Alive.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Volunteers must be at least 17 years old* at the time of the festival. *Certain jobs require a minimum age of 18.

How old do I need to be to camp?

Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need an adult 18 or older to camp with them in the Volunteer Camping Area.

What do volunteers do for meals?

Volunteers are welcomed and encouraged to bring food and meals to their campsite. Food is not provided by the festival. We strongly encourage you to bring a water bottle with you to each shift. Food Vendors are available during the event as well and there is a grocery store within 25-30 minutes of the festival grounds.

What is a Recruited Position?

Some jobs are only available if you are selected by certain Coordinators only. If you have one of those positions, please select “Recruited Position” in the Preferences area of the application.

My child is under 17 years old and not volunteering. May I have my child with me while I serve?

For the safety of the volunteer, the young person, and our attendees, we do not allow persons under 17 to serve on staff or hang out with those who are working. If you’d like to serve, our suggestion would be to have someone you trust stay with your child while you are serving. If you can’t find someone to watch your kids, please do not sign up. Thank you!

I’m not sure I can handle any real physical labor, does that disqualify me from joining the A-Team?

Absolutely not! The A-Team is open to anyone and everyone. Just be sure to read the A-Team descriptions when they become available and choose a job that is a fit for you. The only team that truly requires heavy lifting is Stage Crew. If you get on site and don’t think you can handle a specific job, speak up and we’ll find something else for you to do.

Do volunteers get to see the show?

Yes! As a member of the A-Team you are welcome to do whatever you choose with your free time as long as you show up on time and ready to work when scheduled. Being a volunteer though does mean that you may have to sacrifice some of your viewing time to do the job that you signed up for. A-Team members will have to work during at least one evening out of the three days.

How can I be sure to get on the team I want?

Some of the teams are smaller and will fill up quickly. You will be assigned to your team within a couple weeks of confirming your application. The easiest way to give yourself the best chance of getting on your favorite team is to fill out your application as soon as possible.

I am a registered nurse or trained EMT, can I volunteer to work in the medical tents?

While a medical background is ALWAYS appreciated on site, the A-Team does not outfit the medical tents with any volunteers.

I have a technical and/or production background. Can I volunteer with the Alive tech crews?

The A-Team does not staff any of the technical staff with volunteers.
